Robbie Lyle
CEO, Global Fan Network and Creator of AFTV
Robbie Lyle is the Founder and CEO of Global Fan Network and one of the most influential pioneers in modern sports media.
Best known as the creator of AFTV, Robbie transformed football fan culture by building the world’s largest fan-led football media platform. What began in 2012 with a borrowed microphone and camera outside Arsenal FC has grown into a global digital network reaching millions of fans worldwide. Today, AFTV and the wider Global Fan Network — including platforms such as DR Sports — collectively engage more than 5 million followers and generate hundreds of millions of views annually across digital platforms.
Robbie’s vision was simple but revolutionary: to give fans a genuine voice in a sports media landscape dominated by traditional broadcasters. By putting supporters at the centre of the conversation, he created a new format of fan-first sports media that has since been widely replicated across the industry. His approach has reshaped how football is discussed online, influencing both emerging creators and major broadcasters who now increasingly adopt fan-led content and community-driven engagement.
Under Robbie’s leadership, Global Fan Network has grown from a grassroots idea into a globally recognised media brand whose digital reach regularly rivals and sometimes exceeds the engagement of traditional sports broadcasters. In doing so, Robbie has built one of the most successful independently owned sports media companies in the UK.
Beyond digital media, Robbie has successfully bridged the gap between social media and mainstream broadcasting. He has appeared regularly on major national networks including BBC, ITV, Sky, CBS, and Talksport. In 2018 he produced the widely acclaimed Real Football Fan Show for Channel 4, and in 2020 he hosted and narrated the ITV documentary Under Their Skin, an award-nominated programme exploring racism in football and the lived experiences of Black supporters in the UK.
As one of the most prominent Black entrepreneurs in British sports media, Robbie has helped open doors for a new generation of diverse creators and media founders. His work has demonstrated that authentic, community-driven storytelling can compete with — and outperform — traditional broadcast models.
Robbie is also deeply committed to education and mentorship. He regularly speaks at leading institutions including Oxford Union, Cambridge Union, the London School of Economics, and TEDx, sharing insights on entrepreneurship, media disruption, and representation.
Before founding Global Fan Network, Robbie worked as a London property surveyor while also pursuing music under the stage name Crucial Robbie, touring across the UK and Europe. His single Proud to Be Black reached number one in the UK Reggae charts. Ultimately, his passion for football, culture, and storytelling led him to build the platform that would redefine fan media.
Through innovation, resilience, and vision, Robbie Lyle has built a global media movement that has transformed sports conversation and empowered fans everywhere — cementing his place as one of the UK’s most influential Black entrepreneurs in media.
